“We are excited to announce that, as of Saturday December 7, Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club (KNSSC) will have a limited early opening for Classic Skiing.” said President Marshall Moleschi.  “As more snow accumulates expect further announcements regarding Skate Skiing and additional trails.”

“The several kilometres of classic ski trails that are open will start from the main cabin." said Moleschi. "Plus, all snowshoe trails are open, and ready for your adventures. Come and enjoy your winter club; it’s affordable and it's closer than you think."

Kelowna Nordic’s main cabin is a half-hour drive from the outskirts of Kelowna. To get to the main cabin and its large parking lot, drive five kilometres past Big White Road, turn right onto McCulloch Road and in another five kilometres you have arrived at the main trailheads for both cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

When fully open, Kelowna Nordic members and day users have access to 4 cabins and 75 kilometres of beautiful, wooded ski trails coupled with state-of-the-art grooming and track-setting for both classic and skate skiers. For snowshoers, there is a separate 80 kilometers trail network offering many panoramic views plus the use of the cabins.

As of today, November 28,2024, Kelowna Nordic is not quite ready to open Ski trails. Snowshoe trails are open.  We need about 15 cm of new snow to open the ski trails.

Volunteers and groomers have been very busy rolling all the ski trails.  Rolling compacts the snow so that the ground underneath will freeze.  Frozen ground is essential to ensure that when grooming starts, dirt will not mix in with snow. This will give us the best chance for our trails to last as long as possible in the later season.

As far as I know, only Sovereign Lake and SilverStar are open for cross country skiing in Western Canada.  Those facilities are blessed with high elevation.  However, Kelowna Nordic elevation is just below the SilverStar Mountain trails so I am sure we will open soon.

Know that we will open for Skiing as soon as it is safe and practical.  We are all looking forward to a wonderful winter season.

“Let it Snow”
