Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club is a growing, vibrant, sustainable community of outdoor enthusiasts who thrive on cross country skiing and snowshoeing in a pristine natural environment.

 

MISSION STATEMENT

 

Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club fosters community, volunteerism and accessibility while maintaining quality trails and rustic facilities for sustainable, healthy winter activities which celebrate and respect the natural environment.

 

VALUES

 

INTEGRITY - We will act with integrity and prioritize open communication in everything we do. We seek to make a positive impact on our community by engaging in activities and endeavors that align with the club's Mission and Values.

 

SUSTAINABILITY - We will consider the long-term impact of our actions and decisions and strive to have a positive impact on the club for current and future generations of skiers and snowshoers

 

FUN and FITNESS - We strive to be innovative in providing our membership and community with high quality trails, coaching and events in an inclusive environment.

 

VOLUNTEERISM - We will actively recruit new volunteers with diverse talents, initiative and leadership skills. We will be receptive to new ideas and perspectives to improve our club.

 

RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT - We prioritize environmental responsibility and the sustainability of our operations to minimize our ecological footprint.

• Increase visibility through marketing and partnerships.

• Grow revenue through memberships, user fees, sponsorships, and grants.
• Establish a legacy foundation and strengthen charitable giving.

Trails, Facilities & Equipment

• Replace aging grooming equipment.
• Develop sustainable trail and facility maintenance policies.
• Address climate change challenges through higher-elevation trails and smart operations.

Volunteer Engagement

• Create new ways to recruit, recognize, and retain volunteers.
• Build partnerships with other community organizations.
• Enhance communication to keep members engaged year-round.

Highlights from the 2024 Member Survey
  • 80% rated membership as good or great value.

  • The rustic charm and trail network are the club’s biggest strengths.

  • Top requested improvement: better grooming (53%).

  • 40% would like improved washroom facilities.

  • Membership is aging: 85% are over 45 years old.

  • Only about 50% are willing to volunteer or contribute financially.

Kelowna Nordic’s future depends on balancing our rustic character with smart growth. By focusing on membership, financial sustainability, facilities, and volunteers, we will continue to thrive as one of the Okanagan’s most unique and welcoming winter destinations.
